Butte Creek Canyon Cookbook

"Bad News" can sometimes be "Good News", and so it was in 1964, when the Centerville School District was annexed to Chico Unified School District. It soon got worse. In 1966 the historic Centerville School was closed... Two years later the Centerville School House was offered for sale and that was very good news.
The folks of the Canyon had to buy back their own school house, which gave them a common goal. In order to do this they formed the Centerville Recreation and Historical Association, aka "CRHA".
Subsequently Lois Colman and Mildred Forester wrote a history book "The Tailings of Butte Creek Canyon" sponsored by CRHA. Funds from the proceeds of this book were a spring board to start the next important Canyon project - the Butte Creek Canyon Museum, built with scores of volunteers and the leadership of Lois Colman and Harvey Johnson.
Through the years the old one-room school has been used frequently for potlucks, weddings, 49er faires, election headquarters, funerals, and fund raisers. the old school and museum are the back drop for the pictures found in this cookbook.
No event has been quite as extraordinary as the canyon women creating this cookbook.
